Shipping company UPS now offers what they refer to as “carbon neutral shipping option.” So exactly how does UPS ship packages in a way that is effectively carbon neutral?

UPS offers an option for the eco-conscious business person, as the environment becomes increasingly more of a priority for businesses operating in the current climate, both planet- and economy-wise. In order to maintain a carbon neutral standard for its environmentally-conscious shipping standard, UPS purchases certified carbon (CO2) credits in order to offset the emissions produced by the transportation of their customers’ shipments.

According to UPS, “These offset credits become available when another organization’s project yields less CO2 or other greenhouse gases than would otherwise occur.” The carbon neutral option isn’t just a “trust us” type of option, either. It seems that the carbon neutral distinction for your traveling shipments is verified by Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS), a company that does testing, inspection, and verification for various businesses. Holistic Select Pet Food Logo I get a lot of offers for free stuff — in some ways, it’s one of the best benefits of doing a blog project like this. You find yourself in direct contact with really great people who typically stand behind valuable products and services, and they want others to know about them.

Holistic Select food for pets recently contacted me and offered to send me some food, in exchange for a review. Having a cat, I decided — sure. He can always eat better, and if he likes the food, then we’d be doing something to improve his health and extend his life. Not a bad deal.

We had NO idea just how much he was going to love this pet food.

The fine people behind Holistic Select food for pets sent us a nice big bag of Feline Holistic Select dry cat food: Radiant Adult and Kitten Health, Chicken Meal Recipe (approximately a 3 lb. bag); they also sent us a couple of cans of wet food. Based purely on aesthetics, the new packaging is beautiful: simple, elegant and really nice to look at; it’s sized perfectly to fit on top of the refrigerator, as well, without taking up too much space in the kitchen. This is one of those down-to-earth posts where we don’t try to get all in your face information on some well-researched topic or produce. We’re just gonna’ talk to you about something we use and love every single day in the home. Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day products. Soap for the hands, soap for the dishes, soap for the clothes. Read on.

So the other day, I’m walking around the house talking on the phone using my Sony Ericsson bluetooth device so I can multi-task and get more than one thing done. Holding the phone is way too inefficient, so I like to be able to talk and do other things. You get it. So I make myself a little snack in between projects around the house, and next thing I know, I’ve got food and grease all over my hands. Never fear, Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day is here, to the rescue.

Honestly, I can’t say enough about this line of products, from one consumer to another. They smell so wonderful, they seem to last forever, and they really do get your hands, clothes, dishes or counter surfaces clean in a hurry. We have a bottle of the basil scented dish soap in the kitchen, and the stuff must be so concentrated that it literally has lasted now for weeks with barely a dent in the bottle at all. Seventh Generation, as a company in total, appears to be pretty eco-friendly and sensitive to the needs of an ever-compromised planet. In their company mission statement, they advise that they’ve “…pushed to have a real impact on our competitors, suppliers, communities, and government. Products may be the vehicle, but far-reaching, genuine change is the mission.” Sounds pretty smart — affect change not just in how you get consumers to think about making a shift to more environmentally sensitive products, but also in the entire supply chain involved with those products, as well as government and businesses beyond. According to the copy on their website, Schneider Electric boasts of being “the global specialist in energy management, helping people make the most of their energy.” So what exactly does this mean? I hadn’t heard much of this company, or companies like this, although in new, green economic times, I was sure they existed and were potentially thriving.

Apparently, Schneider Electric is an organization that comes in to help businesses improve their bottom line through increased energy efficiency and general environmental awareness. They target businesses from multiple standpoints, and offer solutions that include education, consulting and reduced power usage.
