Few can deny, regardless of their politics, that PETA is at work on something difficult and beneficial, albeit perhaps indirectly, for the environment. They are working, in the esteemed shadow of former Price Is Right host Bob Barker, to try to get pet owners to be a bit more conscious and aware of just how important it is to spay and neuter their pets. What do you think? Does this go to far? Or in the current media climate, entirely over-sexed, is this just about as sexy and edgy as one needs to get in order to garner attention?

Former Green Cabinet Member Van Jones Interview

Van Jones, Former Adviser to President Obama Interviewed in Portland’s Willamette Week

Quoted From: January 19th, 2011 and by writer STACY BROWNHILL, Willamette Week

“What Obama’s ex-environmental adviser plans to tell Portland about the green economy.

Van Jones

Van Jones

Van Jones says he isn’t bitter that he’s no longer President Obama’s environmental adviser and green-jobs guru.

Jones, who will be speaking in Portland on Jan. 25, has certainly moved on since leaving his administration post in 2009. For those who don’t remember, Jones resigned after Fox News and the right wing relentlessly spotlighted his earlier role in activist groups, and highlighted both his calling Republicans “assholes” and the fact a group he founded was urging a boycott of Fox News host Glenn Beck.

Jones is now a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, a progressive think tank; senior policy adviser at Green For All, a nonprofit creating jobs for poor people that he founded in 2007; and on the faculty at Princeton University teaching a course, appropriately enough, on environmental politics.”

Sean Meenan, Habana Outpost

If you’re in the NY area, then perhaps you saw this article on going green already — but if not, then it’s a great read regardless of where you find yourself. Sure, if you’re in the States, then it might not be that large of an overstatement to say that NYC is in the country’s consciousness on some level, but I may be wrong. Either way, it’s nice to see a city who may be better known for hundreds of things besides going green, putting a little green spotlight on some of its denizens’ efforts.

The story is about Sean Meenan, owner of the restaurant called Habana Outpost, an ecologically conscious operation located in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. According to the article, the “Habana Outpost is among the leaders in New York’s growing collection of eco-restaurants. The environmentally conscious restaurant in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, is open from Earth Day until Halloween and boasts solar panels that funnel excess electricity to buildings nearby. Signs list the Outpost’s environmental bona fides.” Continue reading

Late Night With Jimmy Fallon Goes Green?

NBC’s Late Night Going Green With Jimmy Fallon?
Late Night Jimmy Fallon Goes Green
So the early 2009 headline was that the television show “Late Night” with SNL alum Jimmy Fallon was supposedly going green. After joining up (late, I know) with Twitter (Matty Byloos profile) last week, I was blasted with potential peoples of interest to begin following. It’s all an experiment, really. So I dropped Oprah and started following Fallon on Twitter. Which lead me to these late headlines. Continue reading
