Environmentally Preferred Purchasing is a Great Tool for Going Green
The Environmentally Preferred Purchasing program (or EPP) is an index developed by the Environmental Protection Agency to assist governments, businesses, and consumers with evaluating and buying green products. The index summarizes and consolidates information about environmentally preferable products, including features to look for, case studies, relevant language, and tools for evaluating products.
When it comes to construction and building materials, for example, the EPP recommends looking for attributes like water and energy efficiency, recycled materials, and overall sustainability. It goes on to cover construction model specifications such as LEED and Energy Star standards and tools for evaluating the environmental and economic costs of various building choices. That’s not to mention well-populated lists of case studies and other online resources for consumer perusal. Continue reading

So I have to admit that when I first saw the pedal juice I was a bit mystified at what its purpose was. I thought, “Oh, it’s like a rechargeable battery for 2 pedals but bulkier and not as portable? Is it for people who play shows where there is typically only one outlet? People who like rechargeable batteries but wish they took up more space?”
Then I realized that you could daisy-chain basically as many pedals as you wanted to and power them all with one unit. That’s really cool.
Any gigging musician knows that the fewer things you have to worry about (finding another open outlet for your pedal board, etc.), the better. This also means one less cord strewn across the stage, which is a very good thing. It holds a charge for up to 50 hours of use (depending, of course on how many devices are being powered) on a mere 3.5 hour charge, and has an on/off button to prevent effects from draining power when not in use. New Green eCommerce Site Enters the Web Marketplace: NEERG

Neerg is a new ecommerce store and community where producers of green goods, regardless of the merchant’s size, can sell directly to consumers who are interested in buying only eco-friendly products.
In its mission statement, Neerg says they “support and highlight the best green items in one place and make it easy for [consumers] to engage and support these merchants both on” their website as well as the rest of the Internet. As part of the website’s overall mission, they also cull together articles, green news stories, and environmentally-focused information from around the web — to entertain and facilitate discussion and education. In all their business practices, transparency is preached as a core value, and their number one goal is to bring great products and great merchants to savvy consumers interested in a greener lifestyle.
They also give back 3% of the proceeds into other green-niche organizations. “This is done through direct donation to non-profit organizations we believe in, sponsoring and promoting green events that create awareness and further along green causes, and directly assisting and investing in businesses that need assistance to grow.”
