- Don’t pre-rinse your dishes before putting them in the dishwasher. Experts agree that pre-rinsing has practically no effect on how clean dishes get by running them in the dishwasher, needlessly wasting thousands of gallons of water every year.
- When you are hand-washing dishes, don’t leave the water running. If you have two sinks, consider filling one with soapy water and the other with clean water to rinse. Otherwise, turn the water on and off as needed. Leaving the water running while hand-washing squanders large volumes.
